DALL-E 2 is an impressive art generating tool from OpenAI that creates images based on natural language input and descriptions. It began as a research project, but is now being opened up more widely.
The system is now officially in Beta and over the next few weeks OpenAI plan to send invites to a million people on the waitlist.
The DALL-E 2 usage model will be a mixture of free and paid. Users will receive 50 free credits in their first month and 15 free credits each subsequent month. Each credit will pay for “one original DALL-E prompt generation — returning four images — or an edit or variation prompt, which returns three images.” Once your free credits are used up, you can buy more in in 115-generation increments for $15. It’s not clear whether or not unused free credits roll over from month to month.
To avoid abuse, the system has various safety features in place such as rejecting realistic faces and blocking generation of inappropriate images. There will also be both automated and human monitoring to prevent misuse.
