Robot Model For London Fashion Week

What’s a good application for a skinny robot shaped like a stick on wheels? A fashion model, of course!

London Fashion Week 2018 in September will see a robot on the catwalk. The robot has been created in partnership between OhmniLabs and Kambria. OhmniLabs is a telepresence specialist (think robotic selfie sticks for webcams) and associated company Kambria who work with blockchain technology.

But the big question is: what will the robot be wearing? As usual with these events, that’s a closely guarded secret. What we do know is that Los Angeles based designer Honee is producing the clothing, working with House of iKons for the event. Honee says:

“I use fashion as the language to express the skins we are in. In my upcoming show, it’s not about the future of robots, of a world unknown, but of the presence, the NOW.”

The show is called ÁI, which is as well as a reference to artificial intelligence is also a “play on the Vietnamese word ÁI for love and the Chinese phonetic AI for love”

There’s no picture yet of the robot involved, but if it’s like the normal products from OhmniLabs then it won’t be ‘walking’ the runway but riding it. Anyone with images of Galaxina might be disappointed.

That said, I have this image in my head of Arnie’s Terminator saying: “I need your clothes, your high heels and your handbag.” It would have been a very different film!
